Good Food Box
HISTORY
In November 2002 several agencies came together to address the issue of food security in the Cowichan Valley. Providence Farm developed partnerships with the Vancouver Island Health Authority's Mental Health and Addictions program, Cowichan Tribes, and the House of Friendship to establish the Good Food Box Collective.
This program promotes dignity. As money is pooled to purchase food at wholesale prices in large quantity; savings are passed on to the client. With the money collected, produce that is not available locally from a wholesale outlet is purchased from local farmers to boost the local economy.
